A hair follicle is a part of the skin attached to the sebaceous glands that helps in hair growth. The thicker the density of the hair, the more the number of sebaceous glands that are found. It is important to ensure a healthy condition of the hair follicle to have a bunch of long and lustrous locks. This will be done by some essential vitamins and minerals that will go inside the body through the diet. Today most of us are unable to eat home-made healthy diet on a regular basis, because of our busy schedules. The junk foods that we take are not nutritious in terms of essential hair vitamins and minerals needed for the hair. Let us look at the important hair vitamins and minerals.

The first and foremost hair vitamin is Vitamin A. It is antioxidant that helps to refurbish the scalp with sebum. To ensure the intake of vitamin A you should have fish liver oil, milk, eggs, meat, cheese, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, spinach, peaches and apricots.  

The next hair vitamin is vitamin C. It is essential to have god skin and hair. The foods that are rich in vitamin C are strawberries, citrus fruits, pineapple, cantaloupe, kiwi, potatoes green peppers, tomatoes, and green vegetables.

Vitamin E which is hair vitamin and an antioxidant that is necessary for the blood circulation of the scalp. The food that are rich in this hair vitamin are cold-pressed vegetable oils, soybeans, wheat germ oil, dried beans, raw seeds and nuts, and leafy green vegetables.

Biotin is also a crucial hair vitamin that produces keratin and thereby brings down the rate of hair loss and graying of hair. This can be found in whole grains, Brewer's yeast, liver, egg yolks, milk and rice.

To keep the hair follicles healthy, Insitol is a significant hair vitamin. You will get it in whole grains, liver, Brewer’s yeast, and citrus fruits.

Niacin (Vitamin B3) is necessary for scalp blood circulation. This is found in wheat germ, brewer's yeast, chicken, turkey, fish, and meat.

Pantothenic Acid or vitamin B5 protects from graying of hair or hair loss. Food rich in this vitamin are Brewer's yeast, whole grain cereals, egg yolks and organ meats.

Vitamin B6 is essential to stop the loss of hair and create melanin that maintains the hair color. It is found in brewer's yeast, liver, vegetables, whole grain cereals, egg yolk and organ meats.

Vitamin B12 is needed to prevent hair loss. Foods that are rich in this vitamin are chicken, eggs, fish and milk.

If you are eating foods that are rich in these hair vitamins, you will see the result in a month. The hair takes about a month to absorb the hair vitamins.  If you are intending to take vitamin tablets for your hair, consult your doctor. Starting such a program without asking an expert may have adverse effect on the health. Hair vitamins and minerals are also effective to cure dandruff problems and scalp issues too.
